Bishop Parker Catholic School And Nursery

“Be brave! Stand firm; for the Lord your God is with you.” Joshua 1:9

We learn together. We grow together. We celebrate together. We pray together.

German

Our Learning Sequence

By the time children leave Bishop Parker School we aim for them to be able to understand and respond to speakers in both speaking and writing. We aim for them to have learnt new ways of thinking and for them to be equipped and confident to continue their language learning in Secondary school, whatever that language may be.

We start teaching a Modern Foreign Language in Year 3 and our chosen language is German.  We focus on key areas of learning: speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural understanding.

Class teachers teach their own German.  We use LanguageNut planning and resources to ensure teacher confidence in teaching this subject. Resources are used which include native speaker extracts which expose the children to authentic accents and differing speeds of the language and also supports teacher confidence.

The sequence of learning for German is:

  • Listen
  • Respond and join in
  • Practise
  • Review

In each year group and across each topic, prior knowledge is used to build upon developing their breadth of knowledge and their confidence.
