Hello Year 1 Parents,
This year I am the year 1 teacher, my name is Miss Gormley. I am a newly qualified teacher and I did my training in Stranmillis University College which is a teaching college that is part of Queens University College in Belfast. I have just moved over to Bletchley from Belfast in the North of Ireland and I am very excited to see everyone progress and learn this year! I hope we can all work together in helping the children to explore and grow.
This year the year 1 TAs are Mrs Mongiardi and Miss McKay. Year 1 is the children’s first year to experience the national curriculum, however, although this may sound intimidating it is actually very exciting!
This year we have a lot of fun things planned, such as, BIG maths, Read Write Inc (our phonics programme), drama, mindfulness, structured play, trips and lots more!
We focus a lot on reading in Year 1 and will be beginning our Read Write Inc programme soon and will have a spelling quiz every Friday.
Written homework will be given out on Thursday and we expect it to be returned on a Tuesday. Homework varies from maths, to literacy or topic! We hope you will read with your child every night if you can and go over their spellings with them.
Things you can do to help your children:
* Phonics games.
Year 1’s first topic is fairy tales. We are going to be exploring different traditional tales through literacy, play, geography and even numeracy! P.E. will be on a Monday and Tuesday. Excited for this year!
